What is a Breast Reduction?
A breast reduction is a procedure done to help reduce the size and weight a patient’s breast. There are two types of breast reductions that can be done, liposuction breast reduction and traditional breast reductions. Liposuction breast reductions use liposuction to reduce the breasts, while a traditional breast reduction uses a score to go down towards the crease under the breasts to do the reduction, the breasts are lifted during this procedure as well.
Who is an ideal candidate for a Breast Reduction?
The ideal candidate for a breast reduction are patients where their larger breasts have impacted their health, by increased neck pain, back pain and shoulder pain. Or of anyone is looking to reduce the size of implants or their natural breasts.
Are there any risks to getting a Breast Reduction?
With most surgeries there is always some risk involved, we make sure that our patients don’t experience any pain or run into any risks during or post surgery. However, we want to make sure that you are informed of any risks. Some risks that can occur from a breast reduction is a damage to blood supply, irregularities in breast shape, and temporary or permanent change in nipple and breast sensation.
How long is the recovery period?
Depending on the type of breast reduction period a patient decides to go through the recovery process slightly differs for both procedures. With a traditional breast reduction it will be about 5-7 days before you can return to work, while a liposuction reduction patients are usually returning to work 2-5 days post operation. We advise that patients who get a traditional breast reduction that they get silicone sheeting scar therapy for a year.
